Location
Located in Wheelock Square, a landmark in central Shanghai near Jing'an Temple, Brembo Inspiration Lab is the second global innovation hub of Italian braking systems leader Brembo. Embracing the "home-like office" concept, the project merges Italian industrial heritage with China’s spirit of innovation, transforming the traditional workspace into a dynamic, fluid, and multi-sensory system.
Designed by milanesi|paiusco, the project seeks to translate Brembo's commitment to innovation and its aspiration to resonate with the spirit of the city into a compelling architectural expression. Rooted in this vision, the spatial strategy reimagines how people move, interact, and think within the workplace. Non-linear circulation, diagonally arranged walls, and movable furniture foster lateral thinking and collaborative interaction.
Simultaneously, a carefully choreographed sensory landscape—encompassing light, sound, and tactility—responds to the subtle rhythms of mood and human behaviour. The space becomes more than a passive container; it is conceived as a perceptive and adaptive "living system" that continually ignites creativity and reinforces the brand's identity.
Project Overview
Following the launch of its first Inspiration Lab in Silicon Valley, Brembo—one of the world’s leading brands in automotive braking systems—has unveiled its second Inspiration Lab in Shanghai.
Design Concept
In response to the brand's theme, "Turning Energy into Inspiration", the project aims to create a multi-sensory environment that not only supports work functions but also actively stimulates inspiration.
From spatial layout to material selection, every design decision is driven by the intention to foster new ideas. Physical movement becomes a metaphor for cognitive expansion: diagonally arranged walls disrupt conventional geometry, flowing circulation guides shifts in perspective, and movable furniture encourages flexible configurations and continuous spatial transformation.
What milanesi|paiusco envisions here is not merely a workplace, but a true catalyst for inspiration, realized through a consciously layered design process, where elements are always anchored in intent.
