2021

Project Name:

Confidential Stage

Completion Date:

2021

Building Area:

123,609㎡

Architectural Design:

Neri&Hu Design and Research Office

Project Consultancy:

FORME

FORME  was invited to provide concrete finishing research and technical consultation for Neri&Hu Design Research Office, ultimately developing a sustainable concrete structural rough finish technique for one-time forming construction.

In the architecture design of the Neri&Hu Design Research Office (project information confidentiality stage), concrete arches are used to support the grand volume of the building. Both the architects and the client emphasized the need for the concrete surface to convey a sense of historical strength and weightiness.

In response to these requirements, we proposed a facade solution to achieve the retarded concrete surface effect. This is a complex technology involving stable mix design, an innovative formwork system, and strict quality control processes.

Unlike traditional construction methods, FORME goal is not to mechanically chisel the surface, which increases workload and creates noise and dust on-site, nor to use chemical products to retard the concrete surface. Considering the potential non-biodegradability of chemical products, FORME has adopted an ecologically sustainable approach by innovating a demolding-formed process.

After extensive research, FORME successfully patented the water-absorbing formwork system, which not only achieves the retarded surface effect directly upon demolding but also meets the strict requirements of structural design.
